FG repairs Bauchi road damaged by flood

The Federal Ministry of Works has repaired the section of the Kano-Maiduguri Road in Bauchi State that was recently damaged by heavy flooding.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser (Media) to the Minister of Works, Uchenna Orji.

According to the statement, the ministry received reports of severe flooding on the Sabon Gari axis of Section 2 of the Kano-Maiduguri road.

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, responded to the situation, adversely affecting residents and road users in the area.

“This flood disaster occasioned by climate change was going to cause monumental hardship to the people of the affected area and indeed all the users of the road,” the statement read.

Umahi also praised President Bola Tinubu for his immediate intervention which brought relief to the affected communities.

“The President of Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu, in his usual generous greatness of spirit brought immediate and prompt intervention that renewed the hope of the people of the area,” he said.

To address the issue, Umahi visited the site on August 15, 2024, and initiated emergency response measures.

“In furtherance of the President’s mandate, the Minister of Works,, Sen. Engr. Nweze David Umahi, visited the area on 15th August 2024 and initiated emergency response processes and permanent solution measures towards sorting out the critical situation of the road,” the statement noted.

The damaged road was repaired and opened for emergency use on Thursday pending the completion of permanent construction work.

“Today, the life-threatening problems faced by the people on account of the destroyed road have been solved as the Federal Ministry of Works has fixed the road and opened it for use on an emergency basis pending when final and permanent construction work is completely executed,” the statement added.
